Kenyon Alumni Student Collective (KASC)

Mutual Aid for Affinity Groups

Students who make up Kenyon College's affinity groups (primarily Black, Latinx, and Asian PoC) are most at risk this school year to face unnecessary burden and further discrimination on campus due to budget cuts and the impacts of COVID-19.

Affinity Groups receive less funding than their peer organizations.

Kenyon affinity groups provide a surplus of activities and learning opportunities for the community and are often utilized to exemplify diversity at Kenyon College. Yet across the board, receive less funding than their peers.Affinity groups typically end up paying out of their own pockets to host cultural events, curate dinners, or provide transportation to guest speakers.

Average cost of texts books: $1,240

Kenyon allocates less than half of that to academic support funds. Students in need, many who are BIPOC, are often left scrambling at the beginning of each semester for basic academic needs.

Affinity groups face biases and access, in regards to funding and institutional power.

KASC is working towards breaking these barriers to access, but policy shifts often take years to make concrete. Mutual aid is accessible funding for current student groups to access now.
